Young Celtic winger Rocco Vata is attracting renewed interest from Italy and will soon be free to sign a pre-contract with another club.

Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph reported this evening that Sampdoria are the latest side to have expressed an interest in signing the teenager.

Surprisingly, it’s said that Celtic haven’t offered Vata a formal contract offer. Several Italian sides are now thought to be interested.

The Bhoys rejected offers from Torino and Nottingham Forest for the player on deadline day at the end of the summer transfer window.

Joseph reports that the Bhoys will be due around £343,000 in compensation should he sign a pre-contract elsewhere and leave Celtic at the end of the season.

Rocco Vata looks destined for Celtic exit

For a time, it looked as if Vata would make a sustained breakthrough into the Celtic first-team squad. He made four substitute appearances under Ange Postecoglou and was included in the pre-season plans of Brendan Rodgers.

However, he’s yet to feature for the senior team this season despite a raft of injuries in attacking areas.

The youngster has been in excellent form for the B team, netting 10 goals in 14 appearances, but looks no closer to earning regular competitive minutes under Rodgers.

It would be frustrating to see another highly-rated talent leave the club, especially since Celtic are relying on players such as James Forrest and Mikey Johnston at the moment.

Without an explanation from the player or the manager, we may not find out the full story on this one or why the relationship has broken down.
