Romain Perraud has revealed that he was close to joining Celtic earlier in the transfer window. The left-back recently joined Brest from Nice.
However, he has disclosed that he was close to a move to the Scottish champions until the Hoops ‘changed their mind’ on the deal.
“This summer, Celtic, Brest and Dijon all contacted me with a view to a transfer” he said, as reported by the Scottish Sun.
“Decided to change their mind”

“But Celtic decided to change their mind and that meant I was going to go to Brest instead.”
Only time will tell if Celtic’s decision to pull out of the move was a good one. The Hoops signed Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo as their new left-back this summer. So far, he has been hit and miss in a Celtic jersey.
Hoops will need to sign another left-back

Of course, the Hoops will now need to go into the left-back market again, as Kieran Tierney has left the club to join Arsenal.
Perraud won’t be joining the Hoops though, as he completed his move to Brest after leaving Nice. It is likely that Celtic were interested in many left-backs this season. But there must have been a reason that they didn’t pursue Perraud.
We shall probably never find out the reason. Perraud might well have been a good signing for the Hoops, but it is time for all parties involved to move on.
