Celtic are close to reaching an agreement for Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Joe Hart, it’s been reported by reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Hart was linked with a move to the Bhoys earlier this week by both Romano and The Athletic.
Now the Italian journalist has provided a further update, writing on Twitter: “Negotiations progressing for Joe Hart to join Celtic, as revealed yesterday. Agreement now close to be reached for the English goalkeeper.
“Tottenham are open to let Hart leave and save his salary, after signing Gollini as a new goalkeeper.”
You may remember that Hart was linked with a move to the Bhoys last summer before we splashed out on Vasilis Barkas. It appears the club are going for a plan B approach.
MORE CELTIC STORIES
Barkas was dropped for last night’s match away to Midtjylland, in a clear signal he won’t be our number one choice this season.
Clearly, now, Celtic are on the hunt for a new man to rely on between the sticks.
Hart is a better goalkeeper than our current options but there will be worries about his own blunders over the years and his ability to fit into Postecoglou’s possession-based style.
Celtic “open talks” to sign Joe Hart | REACTION
As we discussed yesterday, signing the former Manchester City man feels like a massive roll of the dice based on name recognition rather than recent form or value.
With the club apparently now closing in on the deal, all we can do is hope for the best.
In other news, Celtic interested in former PSG and Leipzig striker Jean-Kevin Augustin.
