Romano: Celtic open talks to sign Brandon Soppy from Rennes

Celtic have opened talks to sign defender Brandon Soppy from Rennes, prominent transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported tonight.

Romano reckons other French clubs are also keen on signing him.

Although cited as a left-back in the Tweet, Soppy has actually played his games for Rennes on the right flank, which makes more sense from Celtic’s perspective.

Soppy made 11 appearances for Rennes last season, including two games in the UEFA Champions League against Sevilla. [Transfermarkt]

Celtic are well known for signing French talents in recent years with Moussa Dembele, Odsonne Edouard, Olivier Ntcham and Christopher Jullien all arriving at the club.

Could Soppy be the next great young French player to pass through the Parkhead gates?

Brandon Soppy can fill priority position at Celtic

As discussed back in March, the teenager was one of the Ligue 1 players we reckoned that Celtic should be interested in this summer.

Ange Postecoglou has already admitted right-back is a priority position for the club this summer.

Anthony Ralston is currently first-choice. No harm to the Academy graduate but it’s not a viable situation heading into the new season.

If we can get a player like Soppy in the door, it’d be a huge boost to the squad.

Fingers crossed!
