It is not often that Celtic fans look at Champions League results, when the team doesn’t feature. However, it would not be a surprise to see fans taking note of Rosenborg’s result in the play-off first leg against Dinamo Zagreb.
Could be more open to selling player?
It now has to be asked – does that result play into Celtic’s hands transfer wise? Perhaps Rosenborg would be more open to selling Meling now that it looks like they are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League group stages.
It would be a boost for Celtic if that was the case. The club are in need of another left-back to provide competition to Boli Bolingoli.
It is probably more likely that Rosenborg will wait until the outcome of the second leg before any decision is made on Meling’s future.
However, with that first leg defeat it does seem more likely that Rosenborg will be open to selling the player. Should they have prevailed in the first leg, they might not have considered any bids at all.
Hoops must bid for player
Now, at the very least, the Hoops should bid for the player before the transfer window closes.
Only time will tell if Meling becomes a Celtic player in the near future. But if he is a player that Neil Lennon really wants, it is time for the Hoops to bid.
