Lawrence Shankland has been in the news recently. The Dundee United striker scored his first international goal for Scotland in the recent win over San Marino.
The player has been linked with a move to Celtic, who according to the Daily Record scouted the player in a recent game against Morton.
However, as reported by the Scotsman, Dundee United sporting director Tony Asghar has claimed that the player is not for sale.
The reason – he is too important to Dundee United’s bid to earn promotion to the Premiership.
“A key part”
“This club has a history of selling players at the wrong time. My job is to get the best value for the club – and the best value for the club is to go on and get promotion over and above any money from a transfer fee. He’s a key part of what we’re trying to do, so I don’t expect any chats like this come January” the senior figure at Tannadice said.
So it seems that Dundee United are committed to keeping the player. That is understandable, as he will be key to their hopes of promotion.
Hoops could test water with bid for player
However, if Celtic are interested in the player, who has scored over 90 club goals so far in his career, they should test the waters with a bid in January.
United might not want to sell, but the player may be interested in signing for the Hoops. Therefore, Celtic should perhaps consider a bid for the player. Any bid might be rejected though, especially after what Asghar has said.
Only time will tell if Celtic deicide to make a move for the player, in January or beyond.
