On-loan Celtic defender Shane Duffy won’t exit the club to join Nottingham Forest this month.
Rumours have emerged over the past few days that the English Championship club were looking to take over Celtic’s loan from Brighton for the remainder of the season.
Duffy has had a torrid time at his boyhood club this season, failing to find a consistent form or impress supporters on the pitch.
It’s led to speculation he could be leaving Celtic Park early despite signing a year-long loan.
Sky Sports man Anthony Joseph, who has become a reliable figure for Celtic supporters, has moved to clear up the reports.
He said on Twitter earlier: “Celtic expect Shane Duffy to stay at the club until the end of his loan. Reports suggested the Brighton defender was subject of a Nottingham Forest bid.
“Sky Sports News understands that Forest have made no contact regarding the player and are not looking for a CB in this window.”
Shane Duffy likely to get fresh Celtic chance
With Christopher Jullien out for most of the remainder of the season, Celtic are unlikely to be in the business of shedding defenders. And rightly so.
Regardless of Duffy’s form, it would be a worry if a central defender headed out of the club this January.
If anything Neil Lennon and his recruitment team will be on the hunt to bring someone in.
John Kennedy even confirmed that to be the case at the weekend when talking about interest in Filip Benkovic, who has since moved to Belgium.
In the meantime, Duffy is very likely to get a renewed stint in the Hoops starting eleven.
Circumstances dictated he started against Hibernian on Monday and he’ll surely be in the team against Livingston this weekend.
Despite his problems, his exit appears far from imminent.
