Celtic striker Shin Yamada has left the club on loan.

Labelled a ‘club signing’ by Brendan Rodgers in the summer, Yamada joined from Kawasaki Frontale, but has started just one game in the six months since.

The 25-year-old joined from Kawasaki Frontale, where he had fallen out of the starting eleven after excelling in 2024.

In his several substitute appearances, the striker has failed to score a single goal for Celtic, falling behind Johnny Kenny in the pecking order.

He has now made his move to Germany on loan.

Celtic have announced that Yamada has joined Preusen Munster on loan until the end of the season.

Based in North-Rhine Westphalia, Munster play their football in the German second tier, where they currently sit one place above the relegation zone.

Yamada will join fellow Celtic loanee Maik Nawrocki in the division, with the defender currently on loan at Hannover 96.

Despite featuring in most matchday squads domestically this season, Yamada was not even registered for Celtic’s Europa League player-list in September.

He was not in the matchday squad for Celtic’s last two games against Bologna and Hearts.

Hayato Inamura also left Glasgow on loan this month, but he moved back to Japan, joining FC Tokyo after an even greater struggle for minutes.

That pair, as well as Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, have all left after bizarrely finding themselves frozen out under several managers.

Yamada had even played for Celtic’s Under-21 side in the Challenge Cup – he was playing in the Asian Champions League final less than a year ago.

He now gets the chance to prove the doubters wrong in a reputable European league.
