Should Elhamed join Celtic, where does that leave Simunovic?

Celtic have been linked with many players in the transfer window, the latest being Hapoel Be’er Sheva centre-back Hatem Abd Elhamed.

The Scottish Sun is reporting that the Hoops are weighing up a £1.6 million bid for the player. Should Celtic sign the player, that could have a knock-on effect on the centre-backs already at the club.

That player could be Jozo Simunovic. Simunovic looked to be back to his best towards the end of last season. He scored when the Hoops clinched the league at Pittodrie.

Started pre-season slowly

However, he has started this pre-season slowly. He was ordered off in the recent friendly against St Gallen. That could mean he will miss out when the Hoops take on Sarajevo on Tuesday.

Perhaps this is just an early season blip. Hopefully Simunovic will recover his form. However, should a new signing come in, Simunovic could find himself down the pecking order of the Hoops centre-backs.

First choice centre-backs already decided?

It seems that Kristoffer Ajer and Christopher Jullien will be Celtic’s number one centre-backs next season. Should Elhamed join, could that mean he becomes third choice centre-back? That remains to be seen.

The fact that Celtic have been linked with another centre-back could mean that Neil Lennon isn’t finished buying defenders, even after the arrival of Jullien. Only time will tell if more players do arrive, and how that affects the current centre-backs at the club.
