Celtic are in dire need of a striker in January.
That we can all agree on. Wilfried Nancy’s side have been creating plenty of chances, but scoring them has been another challenge.
With Daizen Maeda operating on the left side, Johnny Kenny and Shin Yamada are the remaining two fit striker options. This is unfair on Nancy and those two players in equal measure.
As we all know, there’s plenty of money in the bank. Wessam Abou Ali, Diego Rossi and Ibrahim Diabate are among the forwards to have been linked.
But Simon Donnelly thinks that they could do with looking a bit closer to home.
Wilfried Nancy says he wanted to sign Celtic midfielder Benjamin Nygren at Columbus Crew.

Simon Donnelly suggests Kieron Bowie and another SPFL striker for Celtic
The Hoops have already been linked with two SPFL midfielders this season.
Josh Mulligan is of interest to Celtic, but they aren’t alone in their admiration for him. David Watson has also been linked.

But for Donnelly, Kieron Bowie and Lawrence Shankland are two SPFL strikers who deserve to be in the conversation.
He said on Clyde Superscoreboard: “I quite like [Bowie]. He came to my attention last year I thought he gave Carter-Vickers a difficult time at Celtic Park.
“He’s like an old-fashioned centre-forward, quite aggressive, quite a nice left foot. Had a little bit of a dip, but again, with young players that sometimes happens.
“He took his goal brilliantly [against Hearts]. He’s got something. He’s been round about the Scotland squad as well. He’s got something there, definitely.
“Goalscorers as well… Rangers have been linked with Lawrence Shankland in numerous transfer windows as well. And there’s not much better than him in the league at the moment at finding the net.
“I would say it was a mistake [for Rangers not to sign him], but I think he would do a job for Celtic as well. I really do.
“I think he’s a polished striker in this league, and there is that sometimes – I don’t know if it’s snobbery, when looking at other teams in the league.
“Rangers and Celtic have had a lot of success there over the years, with different players from teams in the league. Nowadays, it’s overlooked.”
Should Celtic sign Kieron Bowie from Hibernian in January?
Kieron Bowie: future Celtic striker?
Shankland to Celtic is a non-starter for obvious reasons, but Bowie is a more interesting suggestion.
He recently turned 23, and has now been handed two Scotland caps. His performances for Hibs have particularly impressed in the big games.
Bowie could be of use for the Hoops given that link-up play with his back to goal is one of his main strengths.
But with Hibs in the race for a European spot, convincing them to sell mid-season could be a challenge.
