Sky Germany reporter says Celtic have ‘concrete interest’ in EURO 2024-involved defender

Celtic are on the hunt for new additions this summer and Brendan Rodgers is keen to bolster his defence with an international who will be involved at EURO 2024.

Transfer speculation has started to kick up a notch at Parkhead, with the window set to open later this week. According to reports, Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has emerged as a target to replace Joe Hart between the sticks.

Celtic reportedly eyeing Salernitana defender Flavius Daniliuc

According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Celtic hold ‘concrete interest’ in Salernitana defender Flavius Daniliuc, who spent the second half of 2023/24 on loan at Red Bull Salzburg.

The prominent reporter wrote on social media platform X: “News Flavius #Daniliuc | Celtic Glasgow has a concrete interest in the 23-year-old centre-back. His contract with Salernitana runs until 2026. RB Salzburg would like to keep him but no final decision yet. Daniliuc is in the Austrian squad for the Euros.”

Per Transfermarkt, the 23-year-old made 27 appearances across all competitions, combining his exploits at Salzburg and Salernitana, registering three assists in total.

Born in Vienna, he is also capable of functioning as a right-back, providing versatility and potential sell-on value if Celtic are indeed courting the defender.

Using his time in the Austrian top flight as a yardstick, Daniliuc averaged around 1.4 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 4.7 ball recoveries per match on league duty this term [Sofascore].

In terms of profile, he would fit the brief for Celtic amid their desire to compete on all fronts in 2024/25. Nevertheless, Salzburg’s preference to have him back at the Red Bull Arena could provide stiff competition for his signature.
