Celtic need to bring a new left-back to the club this summer with no competition or depth currently in place for established regular Greg Taylor.
Right now, the untested Academy graduate Matthew Anderson is Taylor’s principal backup, which is far from an ideal situation when Brendan Rodgers is calling for proven quality to join the squad.
One of the primary transfer links in the position over the last eight months has been Hugo Bueno.
The Wolves defender was first reported to be interesting to Celtic back in January with a late loan bid for the player booted out.
Then, further reports emerged last month that the Bhoys had returned with another enquiry. However, he won’t be coming to Scotland.
Hugo Bueno heading elsewhere in the Champions League
Sky Sports reports that Wolves have now agreed to a loan deal with Feyenoord for the 21-year-old, having previously rejected attempts from Celtic and Norwich City for a similar move.
The Dutch side are a potential UEFA Champions League opponent for Celtic and could be drawn as one of the two Pot 3 sides that the Scottish title winners face.
Intriguingly, it’s said that there is no option to buy the Portuguese talent at the end of his loan. That perhaps gives an insight into why Celtic couldn’t get this one done.

Celtic need the right loan terms
An outright loan deal with no option does little for the Bhoys these days. Even if the player performs well it creates sagas like the one we’ve gone through with Adam Idah this summer.
The vast majority of loan switches completed by Celtic should have an option included somewhere. If Wolves were unwilling to offer that then it’s correct that Brendan Rodgers would move on to other targets.
However, a viable left-back option must join the club before the end of August. It has to be seen as one of the key priorities over the coming weeks.
With Taylor’s contract even expiring in the next 12 months, it’s rapidly becoming the position which needs the most care and attention in the market.
