Sky Sports report that Royal Antwerp could value Aurelio Buta as worth more than the £4.5m fee currently being discussed.
The broadcaster believes Celtic are still in talks to sign the former Benfica man and are preparing a formal bid.
However, it’s apparently still unclear how much the Belgian side are holding out for.
Celtic have other options to turn to should a move for Buta not come off, including Legia Warsaw talent Josip Juranovic, the report states.
Bringing in a right-back has been a struggle for the Bhoys so far this summer despite the urgent need.
Deals have been completed for a goalkeeper, centre-back, midfielder, winger and striker in the time it’s taken to address the position.
Celtic will know one is needed, with only Anthony Ralston currently available.
On the subject of transfers, Postecoglou said on BBC Sportsound last night [05/08, 18:43]: “I don’t want to put timelines on it, because we’re working on things. There certainly will be additions. I still think we need to bring in some reinforcements, we still don’t have a lot of depth in certain areas.
“Some players are just playing every game because I just don’t have alternatives at the moment. At some point, that’s going to take its toll, because we’ve got a lot of games, particularly through August. So we still need to bring players in.
“Timelines are a bit difficult because of the situation we’re in. I’m hopeful that sort of, next week, we’ll have at least a couple more players in.”
Reading between the lines, it certainly sounds like a new right-back is next on the menu. Ralston is one of the players who has been forced to start every match.
Hopefully a deal for Buta, Juranovic, or really and frankly whoever, can be completed as soon as possible.
