Some Celtic supporters have taken to social media today to share their disappointment with Neil Lennon’s comments on the January transfer window.

The Scottish champions have already Patryk Klimala and Ismaila Soro to the squad for the rest of the season, but with both players aged 21 there’s perhaps a lack of the experienced additions expected at the start of January.

Lennon said on January 9th what he wanted from the window, as quoted by The Glasgow Times: “Yes, just a bit of experience. Looking at the team, we have 19-year-olds, a couple of 20-year-olds, 21-year-olds.

“Allied to that, we have the (Scott) Brownys and (Callum) McGregors of this world. Going forward for the second half we would like a bit of experience in there to augment what we already have.”

Clearly that profile of player hasn’t yet arrived and while is still time left to get more players in the door this month, today Lennon appeared to play down the prospect of that.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference today (Celtic YouTube, 1:01), Lennon said: “If we don’t do anything else, I’ll be happy.

“We’ve got a great squad and real quality in it. It’s a very difficult window and we’ll see how things go from there.

“We’ve got a couple of good players in and we’ve sort of streamlined the squad a little bit. At the minute we’re definitely stronger.”

It’s these comments that have riled some supporters who feel like the club are risking our rush for trophies before the end of May.

Our lead over Rangers in the Scottish Premiership is slim and with knockout football in the Europa League to enjoy too, there’s an argument that we simply don’t have enough depth in key positions like central defence.

How it plays out between now and Friday’s midnight deadline obviously remains to be seen, but it is interesting to note the reaction of some fans today.

If the club don’t deliver signings this week there could be an even bigger outcry unless senior figures clearly explain what’s been so difficult about this month and give us some perspective.

These supporters took to Twitter today to share their thoughts on it all…
