Some Celtic supporters have reacted poorly to reports that suggest the Hoops want to bring Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes to Glasgow in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Scottish Sun reported this weekend that the Scottish champions are keen on signing the Scotland international on loan after returning to scoring form last week for the Owls.

The manager is on the hunt for a forward in January to provide depth beyond Odsonne Edouard at Celtic Park. Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Bayo are available but neither have shown the required fitness or quality so far this season.

Rhodes was once an incredibly consistent striker in the English Championship and League One, even once earning some big money moves, such as his £9m switch to Middlesbrough in 2016 (BBC).

However, with his once prolific scoring rate drying up in recent seasons, some have questioned whether he still has what it takes to be a member of Neil Lennon’s squad.

It seems clear that nobody is going to be signed to replace Edouard, but does Rhodes have the quality to play a back-up role in a demanding second half of the season?

It appears that right now, for some, the jury is either out or returning a negative verdict.
