Some Celtic supporters are not keen on bringing Brighton & Hove Albion striker Glenn Murray to the club this January, after reports linking him with a move to Glasgow.

The Scottish Mail on Sunday (05/01 print edition, back page) report that Celtic see him as a viable option to play a back-up role in Neil Lennon’s squad in the second half of the season.

Odsonne Edouard has been leading our attacking efforts so far but with Leigh Griffiths struggling to hit top form and Vakoun Bayo looking more and more like not making it, we need more.

Murray has a decent track record in recent season, firing Brighton towards promotion from the English Championship and enjoying two double-figure-goal seasons in the top-flight in 2017/18 and 2018/19.

An imposing, physical presence in the final third, he could be the kind of battering ram we need to dig out victories from matches that may otherwise end in a draw.

Signing a target man isn’t necessarily a bad idea, but Murray’s advancing years have raised eyebrows amongst fans expecting more from Celtic in the transfer window this month.

Does the fact he is 36 mean he’s not worth moving for? Should Celtic be trying to sign young players with more potential?
