Celtic attacking prospect Jack Aitchison has left the club to join English League Two side Forest Green Rovers on loan for the season, the club announced on Monday.

The teeanger famously became the Hoops’ youngest ever goalscorer back in 2016. He came off the bench to net in Ronny Deila’s last ever game as manager, against Motherwell.

Since then though he’s predominately been part of our development and reserve sides. He’s featured just twice since making his debut back then.

He’s also spent time out on loan at Alloa and Dumbarton. However, this latest move represents his biggest opportunity to impress yet.

Forest Green Rovers will be competing towards the top end of League Two, so his scoring will have to be sharp if he’s to retain his place in the team on a regular basis.

A year competing with the physical demands of League Two should aid his development greatly. He’s likely developed as much as could in our youth set-up and now needs matches to improve.

Whether it kick starts remains to be seen, but other players that have departed on loan in the past have returned and push for first-team action.
