Celtic are in the process of trying to sign Sheffield United star Billy Sharp, according to The Sunday Post.
The paper say that Neil Lennon is on the hunt for two strikers during the current transfer window, with Sharp one of the big targets alongside Slovenian forward Andraz Sporar.
Sharp is an icon at his beloved Blades after his goals propelled to promotion from both League One and the Championship into the Premier League.
Now they’ve reached the elite level though he is struggling to earn game time behind players such as Oli McBurnie.
The striker is now 33 so he’s unlikely to have a long-term future at Celtic Park if he signs but could perhaps do a healthy job in the Scottish top-flight in and around the box.
As a short-term loan option, he could play a valuable back-up role to Odsonne Edouard and reported target Andraz Sporar.
Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Bayo haven’t contributed much in the first half of the season and it makes perfect sense that Lennon would look to strengthen the position ahead of a tough run-in.

Does Sharp have the quality required?
