Some Celtic fans are allowing themselves to be excited at the thought of Victor Wanyama returning to the club.

Manager Neil Lennon has admitted this weekend that there was summer interest in the player, refusing to rule out making a move for him again in the January transfer window.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said: “There was interest but it never got off the ground.

“Could we look at it again in January? We’ll have to wait and see.

“We might not want to with the balance of the squad now, as well as the affordability.”

The 52-cap Kenyan made 98 appearances for the Hoops during his first spell at the club. Under Lennon, he developed into a UEFA Champions League calibre player, able to compete against elite sides such as Barcelona.

Since then he’s only continued to play at the top level. Last season he helped Tottenham Hotspur reach the final of the Champions League, featuring in the quarter and semi-finals of the competition.

This term though he’s found himself struggling to make it into Mauricio Pochettino’s team, failing to get any minutes under his belt so far.

With the likelihood his Spurs career is coming to an end, the door could be open for Celtic to make a move for him in January.

It’s clearly something on Lennon’s mind at the moment.
