Some Celtic fans have been left less than impressed by Neil Lennon’s admission that the prospect of signing Victor Wanyama this month is unlikely.

In comments provided to media outlets over the weekend, Lennon suggested that while Wanyama has been thought about at Celtic, the financial realities and numbers already in midfield make it a doubtful transfer.

As quoted by The Herald, he said: “He’s in my thoughts. But could we afford him? I doubt it very much.

“The problem with Victor is where do you fit him in with bringing Soro in, if we have Brown, Bitton, McGregor, Ntcham. I don’t think that’s going to be an option. I wouldn’t have thought so.”

The comments come after months of speculation surrounding Celtic’s interest in the player after Lennon told the club’s AGM that he would like to have Wanyama in the building.

The Kenyan international was a midfield sensation during hiss first spell at the club, eventually securing a big-money move to Southampton and subsequently Tottenham Hotspur.

His chances at Spurs have been few and far between over the last couple of seasons though.

The 28-year-old’s playing prospects haven’t improved under new head coach Jose Mourinho either.

Seen as a player who could improve our current midfield, some fans have been left upset or perplexed by Lennon’s comments, feeling every effort should be taken to secure his signing.

However, with Ismaila Soro on his way in, it seems that the manager is looking to invest a bit of time into the imminent signing rather than an expensive loan move.

These supporters have taken to Twitter today to share their thoughts on it all…
