Some Celtic supporters are into the idea of signing Charlton Athletic wideman Alfie Doughty before October’s transfer deadline.

The Glasgow Times have reported on Monday that the Scottish champions have submitted two bids for the player, who Nick Hammond scouted earlier this month.

Neil Lennon appears to want him in his first-team squad this season following positive feedback.

He offers versatility but could be best used as a hybrid wing-back in a 3-5-2 system, having experience of operating as a winger and a left-back in his short career so far.

The 20-year-old was on target for the Addicks over the weekend and has been talked up by former Celtic favourite Aiden McGeady recently.

67 Hail Hail’s Hamish Carton took a close look at his situation on our YouTube channel earlier today if you want the lowdown on his talents.

He reckons we have a good shot of landing the youngster and that he could even make a Jeremie Frimpong-style impact on the Celtic squad this season.

I’m hoping we see more progress on this one over the next few weeks.

We have a dire need for a left-sided speedster, Doughty fits the bill, he’s affordable, let’s go and get him – get the third bid in!

Supporters on Twitter have been thinking along the same lines over the last few days, with this lot taking to the social media site to share their thoughts…
