Some Celtic fans think David Turnbull will still end up signing for the club despite his signing of a new contract at Motherwell this week.
The midfielder, who almost signed for the Scottish champions last summer and even reported to Neil Lennon at Lennoxtown, has just returned from a long-term injury that scuppered his transfer.
Making two substitute appearances since then, he has obviously inspired enough confidence in the medical team at the Steelmen that the club are happy to hand him a new deal.
He’s extended his stay at Fir Park by a year to the summer of 2022, giving them a bit of security when it comes to a transfer fee.
The next couple of months are now critical for the player in getting back to full fitness ahead of another transfer window that could be big in his career.
Will Celtic return for a player they were willing to invest a seven-figure fee in just last year? Will clubs from England even enter the race, like when Norwich tried to hijack our bid?
Turnbull will likely be solely focused on getting back to a regular game for Motherwell but if he can show a bit of form again and prove his fitness then he’s likely to have suitors again, even though he’s signed this contract.
These Celtic supporters have taken to Twitter over the last 48 hours to share their thoughts on the deal…
@ClydeSSB My thoughts before and now after Turnbull signing a new deal are still the same. I still believe Celtic will sign him in the summer window.

@ClydeSSB Good luck to Turnbull. Hope the recovery goes well. Lawwell won’t raise an eyebrow now that he’s getting another fiver a week. Celtic can sign any promising player they want.

Glad that either he stays or helps make sure Motherwell get a good fee if he goes. Still like him in the hoops though 🙂

Just means we will have to pay more but I think he’s still worth it 🍀

Also if we do sign him then gives them plenty of money to produce the next David Trumbull/Tom Boyd!!!! Happy to see Celtics money stay in Scotland if talent is good enough

We will sign him, but he’s done a good thing to make sure Motherwell get a decent fee.
