‘Someone’s at the wind-up’ – Celtic fans react to baffling Jonjoe Kenny transfer link

Silly season seems to already be upon us with the January transfer window just around the corner.

Brendan Rodgers will have his plans drawn up alongside Paul Tisdale and his scouting staff for next month but it is unlikely to be a long list of names.

The current Celtic squad is in top shape and is a deep roster full of talent in the majority of positions.

Of course, there are always areas to be strengthened and behind Alistair Johnston at right-back, Anthony Ralston is steady.

However Rodgers and co. may well want competition for spots and that is where the speculation begins.

Bizarrely, it is a former Hoops loanee whose name has re-emerged as a potential future transfer plan but not one supporters seem to want to see in Jonjoe Kenny.

Kenny spent the 2020/21 season on loan from Everton at Parkhead under Neil Lennon and to say his ill-fated spell was a flop would be an understatement.

The Englishman, 27, is perhaps most infamously known for an own goal on derby day as well as conceding an unnecessary corner kick to Rangers from which Alfredo Morelos netted on a miserable afternoon during an equally painful season as a whole.

Celtic fans have had their say on an unlikely Jonjoe Kenny return

Now in response to an apparent German newspaper link to the Hertha Berlin player, Celtic fans have had their say on social media and, for Kenny, it doesn’t look too good.

One complained: “Please tell me someone’s at the windup with these apparent links to JonJoe Kenny,” as another added: “Why am I seeing Jonjoe Kenny links man. Aw my god.”

One wrote: “Why are we linked with Jonjoe Kenny,” accompanied by a crying emoji, as a fourth moaned: “He was bad enough the first time round!”

Jonjoe Kenny’s stats at both Hertha Berlin and at Celtic

Others had more choice words for the defender and the speculation but the overarching opinion remained the same.

Kenny has managed one goal and six assists in all competitions for Hertha this season so far but he has been playing in Bundesliga 2.

He played 16 times for Celtic and chipped in with four assists but remains in the fans’ bad books.
