St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin has admitted he’d love to see Celtic winger Lewis Morgan return to the club on loan in the January transfer window, STV report.
Morgan has struggled to make a big impact under either Brendan Rodgers or Neil Lennon since joining the club last summer from the Paisley outfit.
A loan to Sunderland last season did give him the springboard to initially be involved in Lennon’s plans, but he hasn’t started a match for two months and most of his appearances this term have come from the bench.
The 23-year-old enjoyed terrific success at St Mirren so it could prove to be a tempting reunion.
Goodwin is set to have conversations with Celtic when the transfer window opens about a potential loan deal.
As quoted by STV, he said: “Of course Lewis would be a player we’d love to get, he’s obviously been here before and been very successful. He’s a quality footballer but at this minute in time he’s not available.
“We haven’t been told by Celtic that he is and he remains part of their squad. I wouldn’t hide from the fact that if we could have an opportunity of making that one happen then absolutely we would.
“We’ll wait until the window opens and we will have those conversations then.”

Is a loan move best for Morgan?
Coincidentally I published an article on Sunday looking at Morgan’s situation, arguing that he definitely needs to head out of the club to get regular week-to-week action.
With recent reports from Australia suggesting we will be looking to extend Daniel Arzani’s loan deal, there doesn’t seem to be much room for the Scotland international in Lennon’s squad right now.
The club I suggested would be best for him were Hibs. Jack Ross, who inspired Morgan to great form at the Buddies, has just taken charge there and Easter Road could be a great environment for him to thrive in.
However, it’s just most important he finds a home in the Scottish Premiership that he can display the full extent of his ability.
It worked for Ryan Christie. Can Morgan follow in his footsteps?
