Stephane Diarra comments on possibility of January Le Mans departure
Reported Celtic target Stephane Diarra has commented on the possibility of him moving club this January, amid interest from the Hoops.
The midfielder, who currently plays for French Ligue 2 side Le Mans, was reported as an intriguing transfer target for Neil Lennon’s men last month. Renowned French outlet L’Equipe reported that the 20-year-old was interesting the Hoops, alongside English pair Newcastle United and Leicester City.
Diarra had been pretty quiet on any talk of a potential move away from France this January. Until now.
“I’m still young and the most important thing is to play,” the Ivorian told Goal.
“My goal is to play as many games as possible. It’s good to know that several clubs follow you, but leaving Le Mans this winter? I don’t know. I need to stay focused on my season. I’ll watch what is going on and we will see.”
Diarra goings-on will be one to watch in January
The midfielder hasn’t exactly given a ‘come get me’ plea to Celtic but he also didn’t rule out the possibility of a sharp exit. His current employers won’t be wanting to lose the talent given their lowly league position. Le Mans currently sit 18th in the 20 team second-tier with relegation very much on the agenda.
However, their hand could be forced if we were to offer an amount of money they were unable to refuse. We’ve had great success with French players over the past couple of seasons so it would make sense to trust the club on this one – if the report is to be believed.
Diarra can play in a number of positions from midfield to attack so it isn’t quite clear where he’d fit in if he did join us. For now, it looks like a transfer that we’re going to have to keep our eyes on in the coming weeks.
