Celtic’s pursuit of Gustaf Lagerbielke is now well and truly underway. With the club reportedly already made an offer for the Swedish defender, it looks like he is the man that will replace the outgoing Carl Starfelt.
Earlier today, 67 Hail Hail discussed how the Swedish defender described his style of football and it gave us an insight into what he could bring to the Celtic team.
And now, Swedish football expert, Anel Advic has given a detailed rundown of the 22-year-old’s strengths as the speculation surrounding his future heats up.
Speaking to the Daily Record, Advic said, “Gustaf Lagerbielke is a centre-back who excels in aerial play and is skilled with the ball at his feet. He possesses a sharp distribution ability. Last year, he had a standout season while on loan at Degerfors, and his past 12 months with Elfsborg have been highly successful.
“Elfsborg’s defence has maintained top-tier quality this season, largely due to Lagerbielke’s contributions. He’s probably a future national team prospect.
“This will undoubtedly be one of Allsvenskan’s biggest deals this year. If the transfer goes through, Lagerbielke will become Elfsborg’s most expensive sale ever. Additionally, it’s always significant when Swedish players move to Celtic, considering the history that Swedes have had at the club over the years.”
Looking at Lagerbiekle’s self-analysis from this morning and what Advic has to say here, it certainly seems like Celtic will be getting a right good footballer if we can get this deal done.
It was a nice touch nodding towards Celtic’s history of recruiting Swedish players. The club certainly has a knack for pulling top-drawer players from the Scandinavian country and, should this move happen, we will certainly hope the young defender will be another successful addition.
However, there is a long way to go yet and this story is sure to develop over the next couple of days and it is one that we will watch closely.
