Vakoun Bayo is delighted to have left Celtic and make the move to Belgian club Gent.
The Ivorian striker put pen to paper yesterday, completing a £1.4m deal.
His goodbye message to the Bhoys on Instagram was short and sweet. Bayo said: “Thanks for everything Celtic.”
Accompanying that were two rather forlorn-looking photos of him in the Hoops.
On his switch to Genk, he was a little more forthcoming on the social media site, writing in French.
The 24-year-old said: “I’m very happy to join KAA Gent and reunite with my friend Anderson Niangbo. I am also looking forward to discovering the Belgian league and the Europa Conference League. Many thanks to you for your messages of support as well as to DW Sports Management and my agent William D’Avila.”
Gent start in the second qualifying round of the new Europa Conference League later this month against Valarenga.
Participation in the tournament is likely to have played a big part in Bayo’s decision to withdraw from the Ivory Coast Olympics squad, given the fixtures clash.
Ultimately, the most important thing from our perspective is that exit of the Ivorian striker frees up space for Ange Postecoglou to bring in fresh faces and players that are able to make an impact in Glasgow.
The £1.4m received and Bayo’s wages are unlikely to be a huge boost, but every little helps when we are taking our time to complete deals.
