Sam Hutchinson, Sheffield Wednesday teammate of Liam Shaw, has answered media questions on the midfielder’s impending move to Celtic this summer.
Shaw has agreed to terms on a pre-contract with the Bhoys and will arrive at the club on July 1st after the expiry of his deal at the Owls.
It’s a decision that has proven to be pretty controversial for supporters of the Yorkshire club who were hoping to see him progress his career at the team he supported as a boy.
Hutchinson though reckons he’s done the best thing for his own prospects and has wished him luck on his Celtic journey.
As quoted by Yorkshire Live (10:26 & 10:40), he said of Shaw’s move to Celtic and progression at Wednesday: “You do what you have got to do in football. He has done really well but I am just concentrating on trying to keep the club up.
“He hasn’t surprised me. He’s a big old lump and he’s got potential. He’s done the best thing for his career and good luck to him.”
Liam Shaw’s decision could pay off big for Celtic and the player
Shaw has a difficult job ahead of him to break into the Celtic first-team on a regular basis but the ceiling of success is higher in Glasgow than in Sheffield.
The Owls could be playing in English League One next season, while Shaw could be playing European group stage football – if not in the Champions League then the Europa League.
Having just turned 20, he’s entering a critical stage of his development and will likely see Celtic as a potential stepping stone to even bigger things in the future.

The club, similarly, will be looking to improve the player and ultimately sell him for a grand profit above the cross-border compensation fee set to be shelled out for him this summer.
That’s been the model at Celtic Park for a number of years. We’ll have our fingers crossed it turns out to be great relationship for both Shaw and Celtic.
