Bologna have promised manager Sinisa Mihajlovic that the Serie A club will only sell one player this summer, making the Celtic quest to sign Aaron Hickey more difficult.

Reports linking Celtic with a move for the former Bhoys academy prospect and Hearts player have been rife this summer.

Hickey initially featured regularly for Bologna. However, his season ended frustratingly with a shoulder injury that required surgery.

The Serie A side are said to value him highly, and The Scottish Sun reports a bid from Celtic was rejected.

Mihajlovic wants to keep him. The Bologna boss has also been assured there will be no multiple exits from his squad this summer.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he’s said: “The club has assured me we will sell at most one player.”

Celtic have other priorities beyond Aaron Hickey

No doubt that Hickey will be one of a number of targets for the left-back position. It’s actually not one of our immediate priorities right now, with Greg Taylor, Adam Montgomery and Boli Bolingoli all available.

The right-back area looks far more urgent for Ange Postecoglou and his recruitment team. There is a real lack of first-team experience and ability available there.

So, the Hickey saga may rumble on a bit yet. Bologna will have to balance the demands of Mihajlovic against the desire of Hickey and financial package on offer from Celtic.

A slow burner or not, I’d still like to get the teenager in the door at Celtic Park at some point – he has a bright future.

It’d be a shame to miss out on that, even if he has already turned down the chance of a return to Paradise.

In other news, Boli Bolingoli seems delighted with his Celtic return.
