Celtic could be in line for some extra cash if Matt O’Riley chooses to leave Brighton & Hove Albion this summer.
O’Riley’s career has stalled ever since he joined Brighton and he could be looking to reinvent himself elsewhere.
The Denmark international had spent the first half of the campaign out on loan at Marseille but, with a summer move on the horizon, Celtic will be keen to see how much he goes for as it potentially see them land a chunk of the fee.
The 2026 transfer window is still months away, but what is the number one position Celtic need to improve this summer?📝
Tell us why you picked that position
Celtic expect windfall from any Matt O’Riley transfer
Speaking to The Brighton Base, O’Riley admitted that he would be weighing up his options at the end of the season, saying: “We’ll see how the rest of the season pans out, and, you know, I’d like to hope I’d be involved in some of the games going to the end of the season, but regardless, end of the season, I think I’ll have a bit more clarity on kind of where I stand and how that looks going into the summer.”
As part of the deal that saw him move down south to Brighton, Celtic will be entitled to a small fee wherever he goes.

It will be a lot less than the windfall they got from Jeremie Frimpong’s move to Liverpool, but any extra money is always welcome.
Should he leave for £30m, for example, the Hoops are likely to pocket £500k. The higher the fee, the more money they shall receive.
A return to Celtic for Matt O’Riley is off the cards
Bringing O’Riley back to Glasgow would be a dream come true; however, that prospect is extremely unlikely.
Since the Premier League club want to recoup what they paid for him, signing him would require Celtic to break their current transfer record by more than double.
That puts him out of the price range for the Hoops and sadly, the idea of the 25-year-old wearing the green and white shirt again will have to remain a dream.
