Celtic are searching for a left-back this window as Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his ranks before the transfer deadline.

Greg Taylor remains the only senior option on that side of the defence and is now entering the final year of his deal. Both parties have yet to agree on an extension.

Yesterday, we reported that Celtic are prepared to send Matthew Anderson on loan despite his impressive pre-season performances.

Reading are willing to acquire the Scotland Under-21 international for the remainder of the season. With the left-back situation starting to take shape, the Bhoys remain interested in adding to the area.

According to reports, Celtic have enquired about Ajax’s Owen Wijndal. The Eredivisie giants are open to offers for the Netherlands international, who spent last season on loan at Royal Antwerp.

Liverpool’s Owen Beck still remains of interest. The Reds are open to either a permanent deal or a loan switch for the Welshman amid his contract having two years to run at Anfield [Transfermarkt]. New information has come to light regarding his current predicament.

Celtic target Owen Beck sees options narrow

Reports last week suggested that Leeds United and Middlesbrough were providing competition to Celtic for Beck, but it appears one of them has now decided to take a different direction.

According to Teesside Live, the former Dundee loanee isn’t on Michael Carrick’s radar this summer, with work going on behind the scenes at the Riverside Stadium to sign an alternative unnamed left-back target.

In a way, this could narrow the list of competitors Celtic have in the race to sign the AXA Training Centre product. Nevertheless, Queens Park Rangers and other EFL clubs have also been in pursuit of the Anfield talent.

Realistically, this could be one that goes to the wire. The transfer deadline is next Friday, and you would imagine the Liverpool fringe man will take time to mull over his options.

Crucially, there has been no news to suggest Celtic are no longer looking to strike. The Bhoys are in desperate need of depth at left-back, and Beck may be their best bet at this stage in the window.
