The daft Phil Jones to Celtic rumour and what fans are saying about it
Yes, folks, we are only a few weeks away from another transfer window and with it will come all sorts of Celtic rumours credible and otherwise.
It’s not as if there isn’t work to be on the squad after all, with the positions most in need arguably coming on the right flank, both in defence and attack.
One report that’s popped up this week has come from website 90min.com, who reckon that the Scottish champions are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Manchester United central defender Phil Jones.
It’s said that the Old Trafford side will let him leave on loan next month and as many as seven English Premier League outfits are keen on his signature.
90min say that Celtic have asked to be kept in contact about the possibility of signing him.
Immediately it seems like a non-starter to me.
First of all, if almost have the division down south want him, there is no way we’ll be able to compete with a loan fee or wage contribution.
Spotrac shows he earns as much as £75,000 week, a monstrous wage to us.
Secondly, we already have enough confidence problems in the heart of defence without looking for more trouble bringing in another who has recent history of errors and mistakes under pressure.
Jones is no doubt a competent player. You don’t reach his stature in the game without being so.
However, I just don’t think he’s a great fit and I’m filing this rumour under daft, regardless of the accuracy of the report and Celtic’s interest.
These fans have taken to Twitter this week to share their thoughts on it all…
