The decent fee Celtic will receive for Bosun Lawal as he heads for permanent exit, medical set

Bosun Lawal has had strong development at Celtic but he won’t make a sustained first-team impact at the club.

Lawal enjoyed an impressive loan at English League One side Fleetwood Town last season, emerging as a viable midfield option instead of a centre-back.

Returning to Celtic this summer, he was assessed by manager Brendan Rodgers in pre-season friendlies and a tour of the USA.

There were some haphazard moments but the manager praised his strength and power as key attributes.

Now, the Republic of Ireland U21 star is closing in on a departure from Scotland and Stoke City are the favourites to land him.

Celtic could get a few million for Bosun Lawal

Irish Examiner journalist John Fallon has reported this morning that the Potters are at the front of the queue to sign Lawal and that the Scottish champions could get a decent fee for his departure.

It’s said that a fee between £2m and £3m will be enough to get a deal done with Celtic as Lawal considers the next steps of his career.

Football Scotland separately reports that he is set to undergo a medical this afternoon to confirm the move.

Regular week-to-week senior football will undoubtedly be his goal now and if he’s not getting it at Celtic then it’s best for all parties that he moves on.

The idea with youth players is always to provide a pathway into the senior set-up at the Bhoys but if that can’t be achieved then making a tidy profit is the next best thing.

Considering that Lawal only has a single substitute appearance in the hoops competitively, a seven-figure fee is welcome.
