When it comes to Celtic’s game against Lazio on Thursday night, a lot of attention will be focused on one player in particular – Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard.
In a way that is understandable. He has been in great form for the Hoops this season. That has been shown particularly in Europe.
Excellent for both club and country
The Frenchman was excellent for the Hoops in the recent 2-0 Europa League win over Cluj. He has also been scoring on a regular basis for the French under-21 side.
Therefore, it would not be a surprise to see Edouard put on a great performance for the Hoops against Lazio. However, there could be a downside to that.
That is, it will only attract more attention for the player from clubs who want to buy him. There is nothing really that Celtic can do about that.
The Hoops cannot stop teams from declaring an interest in the player. There will no doubt be plenty of scouts watching the player against Lazio.
However, the Hoops must make sure that any bids that come in for the player in January are not accepted by the club.
Hoops will be aware of interest in player
To be fair, Neil Lennon and the Celtic board will be well-aware of the interest in the player. But they will also know how important he is to the current Celtic side.
That is why, even if Edouard attracts more attention for his performance against Lazio, it should not make a difference to Celtic’s plans for this season.
If a bid comes in for the player in the January transfer window, Celtic must reject it, no matter how much money is offered.
Celtic know that Edouard could go on to become one of the best strikers around in a few years time. For now though, they must concentrate on making sure that the players stays at the club for a while longer.
