Celtic are in the market for a striker this summer to try and complement Kyogo Furuhashi in attack for the new campaign.

The Japan international scored six times in pre-season and has regained a level of sharpness in front of the target that wasn’t always forthcoming last term, albeit he did register on 19 occasions.

Nevertheless, with Celtic’s pursuit of Adam Idah in deadlock as he continues pre-season preparations with Norwich City, the need for a new frontman at Parkhead is growing by the week.

Earlier in the window, Bristol City striker Tommy Conway was mentioned as a target for the Hoops amid his contract wrangle at Ashton Gate. Robins manager Liam Manning has revealed he is open to letting the Scotland international leave this summer to avoid losing his services on a free transfer in 2025.

Now, his future has been thrust into focus as suitors circle for his signature with just over a month of the window remaining.

The latest on Celtic’s Tommy Conway interest

According to Sky Sports, Middlesbrough have begun ‘initial talks’ with Bristol City as they eye a move for Conway. The pacy striker debuted for Scotland against Finland in June and was present in Germany at Euro 2024.

The Taunton-born man has been training with Bristol City’s Under-21 side after rejecting the offer of a new contract at the club, and Manning has confirmed he wants the player to leave sooner rather than later, which has opened the door to interested parties.

Per Transfermarkt, Conway has registered 25 goals in 92 appearances at his current employers, with 12 strikes in 43 outings last term.

Manning has also confirmed that ‘bits are going on’ with regard to sorting out Conway’s future, so it shouldn’t be too long before some form of clarity is found between all parties [Bristol Post].

Celtic could land the Scot for just £300,000 in training compensation if he were to hold off and exercise his right to leave under freedom of contract next year.

However, it remains to be seen whether the Bhoys will be able to acquire the striker amid advances from elsewhere.
