Talks between Celtic and Georgios Giakoumakis are said to be progressing well, as Werder Bremen struggle to meet the financial realities of the deal.
That’s the word from Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph, who said on Twitter this evening: “Werder Bremen are struggling to finance a deal for VVV-Venlo striker Georgios Giakoumakis. They’re already looking at other options.
“Talks between Celtic and Giakoumakis are said to be progressing well. Venlo want a 15% sell-on clause included in any transfer for the player.”

It sounds as though Celtic are very much in pole position to land the striker, who was the top scorer in Eredivisie last term.
VVV-Venlo were actually relegated. But, for me, that simply provides context that makes the Greek striker’s scoring exploits even more impressive.
In total, he scored 29 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions. [Transfermarkt]
Clinical in a struggling team, just think what he could do with the service of our quick-thinking, rejuvenated Celtic attack.
That kind of firepower doesn’t come on the market for a realistic, low seven-figure fee very often, so it’s no surprise to hear that Celtic remain in the hunt for him.
The striking position is still a priority for the club despite the signing of Kyogo Furuhashi earlier this summer. Odsonne Edouard could well end up leaving the club before the end of the month.

Albian Ajeti and Leigh Griffiths meanwhile have struggled to break into the plans of Ange Postecoglou.
Bringing in more fresh attacking prowess would bolster the manager’s options and delight supporters.
In other news, Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou makes an outstanding public anti-racism statement.
