Celtic face competition from Mexican side Cruz Azul for the permanent addition of Julian Araujo.

Vamos Show have revealed that Araujo is one of the players on their radar but have warned that they are ‘sounding out’ the price before beginning any negotiations.

Fans are desperate to see Araujo stay at Celtic Park beyond this season, and have one thing going in their favour.

Will Celtic regret not inserting an option to buy in their Julian Araujo loan from Bournemouth?

Mexico manager wants players playing in Europe

Mexico boss Javier Aguirre has hinted at recalling Araujo for the March international fixtures, and potentially the 2026 World Cup.

However appealing a return to the homeland may be, the 24-year-old has previously revealed that he would rather stay in Europe to further his career, while Aguirre wants the same from his players too.

He told Glasgow Times: It’s true that I also spoke with Julian Araujo, who is currently doing well in Scotland. Right back is a position where I have many options.

“We have Rodrigo Huescas at FC Copenhagen too and I want to see our players in Europe in the future.”

That will be a positive for Celtic, who know that will narrow down the number of clubs that may be considered a viable destination.

The defender will want to be Mexico’s long-term right-back beyond the World Cup this summer and staying in Europe will be the best idea for his career.

Celtic should pay whatever it takes to sign Julian Araujo

Celtic didn’t insert a release clause inside Araujo’s contract, which means that they will be in the same bidding war as everyone else.

Bournemouth may decide to utilise him next season but could also see this as an option to make some money and cash in on a player in good form.

They will want to recoup most of the £9.5m they paid for him. If they were to break even, that would make him one of Celtic’s most expensive signings.
