The statistics that show that reported Celtic interest in Diabate is a gamble

  1. Celtic have been linked with many players in the summer transfer window. The number will no doubt increase as the transfer window gets ready to slam shut on Monday night.

One such player that has been linked to Celtic recently is Leicester City attacker Fousseni Diabate. The Daily Record are reporting that the Hoops are interested in signing the player.

The player would provide another option on the wing, and he has played as a striker as well. However, some statistics from his loan spell at Sivasspor last season could give a pause.

Not enough goals for a Celtic player?

In 17 appearances, he scored two goals and had three assists. That might not be enough for a player at Celtic. As well as playing as a striker, Diabate has played on both the left and right wing in his career.

However, at the moment, would he dislodge the likes of James Forrest or Mikey Johnston from the Celtic side? The answer would have to be no.

As Diabate’s contract expires at Leicester expires in 2022, perhaps a loan deal would be the best bet for Celtic, should they want to sign the player.

Hoops already have plenty of attackers at the club

It is a bit of a surprise to see that the Hoops are reportedly interested in a player who primarily plays on the wing. Celtic already have a surplus of wingers at the club.

Perhaps this indicates that some wingers could be leaving the club in the near future. One such candidate for that could be Scott Sinclair.

He has rarely featured for Celtic this season, and could perhaps move abroad. That could lead to Diabate coming in.

No doubt there will be plenty of speculation involving Celtic between now and Monday. Diabate could be just one of a number of player who are linked with a move to Glasgow.

Is Diabate a player who would improve Celtic? That remains to be seen. But the aforementioned statistics aren’t the best for an attacker.
