Celtic’s Champions League exit at the hands of Cluj could have ramifications for weeks to come. For a start, the Hoops will miss out on the finances that qualifying for the group stages would provide.
It could have an impact on the standard of players Celtic can sign for the rest of the transfer window. It could also lead to interest in some of Celtic’s key men.
Player won’t be happy to miss out on group stages
One such player is Odsonne Edouard. He was superb for the Hoops against Cluj, scoring in the 4-3 loss. However, you have to imagine that he will not be happy that he will not get to play in Europe’s biggest domestic competition.
Unfortunately for Celtic, whilst the transfer window may be closed in England, it is still open in other European countries. One of those is Edouard’s native France. Clubs in France will no doubt have been in impressed with Edouard’s form for the Hoops over the last two seasons.
No surprise if bid comes in
Therefore, it would not be a surprise to see a bid come in for the player in the next few weeks. That will be what all at Celtic are fearing.
The Hoops would have to resist any bid that came in for Edouard. After selling Kieran Tierney already this summer, it would be too much for the fans to deal with if Edouard was sold as well.
However, perhaps Edouard will see his immediate future away from Celtic Park. We shall know more in the next few weeks.
