Tom Rogic has rejected the chance to leave Celtic and looks set to fight for his place in Neil Lennon’s first-team, The Daily Record has reported this week.
The Australian international appeared to be on the verge of a Qatar move this month after the Bhoys agreed a £3.5m fee, say the paper, but he’s failed to agree personal terms.
He’s now set to remain in Scotland and battle for a starting spot in Lennoxtown training.
Rogic hasn’t played for the club since March but has been an unused substitute in two Celtic matches so far this season.
He was also spotted in first-team training over the international break with Leigh Griffiths, so perhaps that extra bit of work in Scotland could push him back towards minutes in Lennon’s eleven.
Fitness issues have dogged the Invincible treble winner for years and over the last 18 months he’s really fallen off the Celtic wagon.
Still, we know the kind of magic he can produce and he’s proven he is a big game, big time player when he is at the peak of his powers.
It’d be fantastic if he could get back there this season as we push for ten-in-a-row, giving Ryan Christie something to think about in the attacking midfield position where he lacks competition.
Whether that will happen remains to be seen.
These Celtic fans are certainly happy about this latest transfer report though, feeling it’s much better he is in the squad than the Middle East.
