Celtic have been linked with a few strikers during the January transfer window. Three names have been prominently mentioned as the Hoops aim to add more firepower to the squad. They are Andraz Sporar, Tino Kadewere and Patryk Klimala.
The Hoops have obviously put signing a new striker at the top of their January wish list, which is understandable. The more help Odsonne Edouard gets the better.
However, aside from the fact that the trio are strikers, there is one thing that the players have in common – their height.
The trio are all tall players
The trio are all at least 6ft tall. Sporar is 6ft 1, Kadewere is 6ft and Klimala is 6ft as well. That could well indicate that Celtic could be attempting to forge a different style of play in the second-half of the season.
The Hoops have been playing a very intricate passing style at times this season. It has been very effective for the most part. However, it times it breaks down, and Edouard is guilty of taking too many touches at times.
With the Hoops seemingly on the look out for tall players, that could well mean that Neil Lennon is aiming to introduce an element of the long ball game at Celtic.
Could lead to a ‘plan B’ in attack
It would make for a decent attacking option. For example, in the recent 2-1 loss to Rangers, a tall striker coming on to win most high balls in the Rangers box could have led to a Hoops equaliser.
You would imagine that for the most part Celtic will stick with the style of play that has brought the Hoops plenty of success in the last few seasons.
However, there is nothing wrong with having a ‘plan B’. In fact, it could be argued that it is a good idea to have one, and Celtic have lacked it recently. It remains to be seen which striker the Hoops will bring in. Hopefully they are able to inspire the Hoops into some new attacking play.
