Celtic are now facing more competition in the race to sign Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles this summer.
The Hoops are one of the sides interested in signing Charles following Wednesday’s relegation to League One this season.
Charles would represent the perfect long-term replacement for Kasper Schmeichel and Barry Bannan has already explained why the 20-year-old would be the ideal signing. But, will they win the race?

Championship duo to compete with Celtic for Pierce Charles
According to Football League World, both Cardiff City and Queens Park Rangers are interested in the Northern Ireland international.
Cardiff secured an immediate return to the second tier by finishing second in League One while QPR are set to secure a midtable spot in the Championship.
Other teams may also join the race throughout the summer but Celtic should consider themselves as one of the frontrunners as they can have the allure of playing in front of 60,000 fans at Parkhead, as well as European football.

Celtic could land Pierce Charles in cut-price deal
With only 12 months left on his current contract, Charles could be available for a cheap deal.
Wednesday’s perilous financial situation means that they will take any sort of funds they can to generate some cash.
His current manager Henrik Pedersen has also tipped him for a bright future, telling BBC Radio Sheffield in April 2026: “I think there’s nobody that has doubt for his potential. He has a big, big future, that’s why we are really, really proud and really happy that he’s a part of Sheffield Wednesday.
“We will do everything we can to keep him for the future.”
