Former Celtic player Vidar Riseth has predicted the Bhoys will make a move to keep Moi Elyounoussi on at the club this summer.
Elyounoussi has been on loan at the Bhoys since the summer of 2019, making 67 appearances in all competitions to date.
He’s netted a healthy 25 goals in that time, with 17 of them coming this season. [Transfermarkt]
Riseth reckons those efforts, coupled with his assists, will be enough for the Bhoys to bite on a permanent transfer.
Speaking to The Daily Record, he said: “I know him quite well and he’s a really nice guy. But of course being a nice person is not enough. The most crucial part is he is a good player and he is also that. Everyone can see it.
“Keeping Mohamed is important because there are so many rumours about players going and there could be many of them. He has scored almost 20 goals this season in a team which hasn’t done so well and he’s not started all of the games. If he had been playing regularly that number would be increased.
“You can see the potential he has within him to do that. If he was going to be in the attacking side of the side every single week he could get up to 30 goals a season and that’s excellent.
“I think they will keep him and I hope they do.”
A move for Moi Elyounoussi wouldn’t be the worst Celtic idea
I’m not against signing up Elyounoussi next season. I know he has his critics and, arguably, someone of his ability should be showing more consistency in the Scottish Premiership.
However, you can really argue with his direct goal contribution and under a better coaching set-up could thrive.
If the finances of the deal are right, and I’m talking £5m or £6m, then I don’t see why wouldn’t try to get him back.
Riseth’s prediction, a person who knows the player, also holds a bit of weight here in terms of what is likely to happen.
