Viljami Sinisalo has hinted that he may have to consider leaving Celtic temporarily in order to get more game time.

Despite impressing whenever called upon, Sinisalo has played the role of deputy to Kasper Schmeichel.

Sinisalo continues to be picked by Finland but the longer it goes on, the more his chances of featuring are harmed.

The 24-year-old may get the chance to flourish under a new manager however, with January around the corner, a loan move away may prove to be the best option.

Should Viljami Sinisalo be the long-term replacement for Kasper Schmeichel?

Viljami Sinisalo wants more game time

Speaking to Finnish outlet Kymppipaikka before their games against Malta and Andorra, Sinisalo evidently sounded frustrated by his lack of opportunities and wasn’t ruling out a January exit.

He said: “Of course, every footballer wants to play. That’s what I want to do too. We have to see what happens.

“As I said, playing is really important. It’s hard to say more at this point, but you can never say no to anything.

“The only thing I want to do in football is play. I always miss that. It is the biggest thing we all want to do. Nobody wants to just watch from the stands. The hunger is strong, and the desire to perform is even stronger.

“Let’s see if the opportunity arises.”

Viljami Sinisalo can be a long-term Celtic number one

Until Schmeichel leaves Celtic or hangs up his boots, Sinisalo will be waiting in the wings.

He’s already proved that he is capable of stepping up and being a reliable option in goal.

Last season, the 24-year-old was the man between the sticks for the final run before Celtic were crowned champions, and some fans even felt it was harsh to drop him for the Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen.

The likelihood is that Schmeichel will go at the end of the season and then it will be Sinisalo’s time to shine.
