VVV-Venlo director of football Stan Valckx has confirmed that his club have reached a financial agreement for the transfer of striker Georgios Giakoumakis.

The Giakoumakis to Celtic saga has been going on for a number of weeks now. However, it finally looks like the Bhoys have landed their man.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, Valckx said: “We have agreed a transfer fee with Celtic. It’s now up to the player himself to discuss terms with the club for the deal to be completed.”

Giakoumakis was left out of their match against AZ Alkmaar’s B team last night.

The Scottish Sun says he will cost Celtic around £2.1m.

Meanwhile, it has been reported tonight that Giakoumakis is now travelling to Paris to complete his Celtic medical.

Website Inside Futbol believes that Giakoumakis was at the airport this evening before heading to Paris and that he’ll likely be at Celtic early next week should it all go through without a hitch.

It’s looking very likely that Giakoumakis will be Celtic’s next signing.

That’ll please supporters given he arrives with a goalscoring pedigree. He was the top scorer in a competitive Eredivisie last season despite being relegated with VVV-Venlo.

If he can provide that presence in a failing team, he should be able to adapt to a team that dominates fixtures and creates loads of chance.

Bring it on!
