"We're close on a number"; Ange Postecoglou's Friday Celtic transfer update

Ange Postecoglou didn’t have too much to share on the transfer front at his Celtic press conference today but did update to say that the club are “close on a number” of signings before the end of August.

Celtic have had a busy summer when it comes to incoming players. However, it’s been over two weeks since the last deals were announced.

With just eleven days until the end of the window, time is of the essence, which is something Postecoglou is not shy about expressing publicly.

Speaking to reporters today, he said [Celtic YouTube]: “The almost done news is still almost done. I have nothing further. I’d love to be able to say we’ve brought somebody else in but we’re not quite there yet.

“The clock is ticking. We know when the transfer deadline is and we’ll be bringing in players before then but to say another deal has been done, it hasn’t as yet.

“But we’re close, we’re close on a number, and hopefully over the coming days we’ll be able to bring them in.”

The players most prominently linked with a move to Celtic in recent days have been defenders Liam Scales and Josip Juranovic, as well as striker Georgios Giakoumakis.

That trio would go a long way to providing more depth to an under-pressure squad.

The signing of Juranovic would probably excited Celtic supporters most, given he is a Croatian international and plays at right-back, a position of urgent need.

Postecoglou has consistently refused to comment on individual players before they are in the door, so we don’t know if these are the deals he’s referring to.

Fingers crossed it all becomes clear very soon!
