Will Celtic make a January bid for Strahinja Pavlovic?
It seemed as if instead of signing Partizan Belgrade defender Strahinja Pavlovic, Celtic would be facing the player in the Europa League.
Pavolvic had reportedly undergone a medical with Lazio and the Hoops’ future opponents had agreed a deal with Partizan worth €5.5 million.
However, Football Italia recently reported that the deal didn’t happen after all. Therefore, it looks like the player may be available for transfer again in January.
Manager was interested in player
The question that will inevitably arise is – will Celtic make a move for the player in the next transfer window? It should be remembered that the Celtic boss personally scouted the player in the summer.
That shows that he must have been high on the list of potential signings. The Hoops did bring in one centre-back in Christopher Jullien.
However, with the injury issues that the team have had it is never a bad idea to sign another defender. Jozo Simunovic might be out of action for a while with a knee injury. Kristoffer Ajer, who has also played at centre-back this season, is also out with a current injury issue.
Player has plenty of promise
Therefore, a move for Pavlovic could make sense for the Hoops. It should be remembered that the player is only 18. The fact that Lazio were willing to pay over five million Euros for such a young player shows how much promise he has.
Should Celtic sign Pavlovic, he could be a mainstay of the team for many years to come. It would no doubt be a lot of money for the Hoops to invest in a player.
Celtic do have the money available though. It should be remembered that not much – if anything – of the £25 million received for Kieran Tierney has been spent yet.
It remains to be seen if the player is still one that interests Neil Lennon. If he is though, it would be a statement signing should the Hoops managed to land Pavlovic.
