The previous transfer window may have just closed weeks ago. However, soon Celtic will have to turn their attention to the January window.

At the moment, most of the areas of the team seem well covered for players. The Hoops have no need to sign a goalkeeper, full-back, midfielder or striker in January.

They may sign players for one of those positions anyway, but there is no desperation to bring a player in. However, there is a position that the Hoops may look to strengthen in.

Injuries are a concern

That position is centre-back. On the face of it, Celtic do have a number of centre-backs at the club. However, at the moment only two are fit.

Christopher Jullien and Kristoffer Ajer will be the first choice players for the moment. However, the only current fit back-up, Hatem Abd Elhamed, is the Hoops’ first choice right-back.

Nir Bitton is currently out, as is Jozo Simunovic, after having a knee operation. Jack Hendry is fit, but he is out of the picture at the moment.

With the injury issues, perhaps it is worthwhile that Celtic move to bring in another centre-back during the January transfer window.

Could make another move for Premiership defender

As for who that player might be, perhaps the Hoops will once more move for Aberdeen’s Scott McKenna?

Celtic did have a bid turned down for the player last year. He could be an option for the club to pursue. It might seem like the Hoops have too many centre-backs if another one signs.

However, you cannot have too many good players in your squad. With the number of games Celtic play a season, there will always be a chance that any new signing will feature for the first-team.

Celtic will no doubt already be planning for the January transfer window. It will be a surprise if a centre-back isn’t high on the list of new signings.
