One piece of Celtic related news that might have gone under the radar in the light of the Hoops injury issues ahead of the games against Hamilton and Rangers is that Vakoun Issouf Bayo has returned to Celtic training.
Celtic boss Neil Lennon confirmed that the striker is working his way back to fitness after suffering a knee injury. Lennon did admit that he won’t feature in the first-team just yet though.
“It’s probably too soon”
“Bayo is back in training but it’s probably too soon” he said, as reported by the Scotsman. Bayo’s time at Celtic has been disrupted by injuries. However, he will be hoping to get a chance to prove himself before the transfer window reopens at the start of January.
With Celtic having so many games in December, you have to imagine that the player will get a chance to prove his worth once more. That could depend on how quickly he returns to fitness though. There is no point in rushing the player back.
However, what could be complicating matters is that there is a good chance that Celtic will move for a striker in the January transfer window. Neil Lennon recently told the Scotsman that the striking issue is something ‘the club will look at in January’.
Signing another striker would limit player’s chances
The Hoops currently have three strikers on their books in Bayo, Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard. If they sign a fourth, it could make it even more difficult for Bayo to get some game time.
He will be hoping to get a chance in the next few weeks to prove to Neil Lennon that the Hoops do not need to sign another striker.
Hopefully Bayo does get a chance. He has performed well enough on the times he has got into the Celtic side this season. Will that be enough to stop the Hoops signing a new striker in January? Only time will tell.
