A Celtic scout was impressed by the performance of winger Adil Boulbina this week, according to the Algerian website DZ Foot.

The respected outlet, which has close to one million followers on Twitter, shared the report from one of its writers – Mohamed Brahdji – on Boulbina’s performance for Algeria U20s against Japan in France this week.

Brahdji said: “Noted on Tuesday for his performance against Japan, Adil Boulbina caught the eye of recruiters from Lille, Angers, Celtic and Frankfurt present at the Stade Parsemain. Contacts are currently underway between Paradou and one of the clubs mentioned.”

Boulbina plays for Paradou in his homeland, where he’s made 27 senior appearances, scoring four goals and assisting four more. [Transfermarkt]

Celtic will be constantly scouting players from markets all over the world, not just for this transfer window but future windows too.

We’ve heard countless reports over the years of the Bhoys checking out a player, only for nothing to materialise – so you couldn’t regard this as a firm link quite yet.

It’s little surprise Celtic are looking at wingers though. With Jota yet to sign on the dotted line, there’s a lack of depth in the wide areas beyond Daizen Maeda and Liel Abada.

James Forrest can still play a squad role but his presence in starting elevens has become increasingly diminished over the last couple of seasons.

Players such as Mikey Johnston and Karamoko Dembele, meanwhile, seem firmly on the fringes of Ange Postecoglou’s plans.

Fresh talent is needed and perhaps a younger option such as Boulbina, still just 19, would be the way to go here. It didn’t work out too badly with Abada, after all.
